BIOGRAFY

GAETANO RICCI is a painter, sculptor and installation artist who divides his time between two Northern Italian cities: Belluno, where he collaborates, in Visual Arts, with the Filo d'Arianna Festival and where he conceives and designs sets for art installations for the TIB Theatre of Belluno, and Treviso, where he teaches the Discipline of Painting at the Liceo Artistico Statale di Treviso (The State Upper Secondary School for the Arts of Treviso).

Gaetano Ricci was born in the beautiful town of Jesi in the Ancona province of Le Marche, Italy, in 1959 on New Year's Eve.

While attending the upper secondary school for the Arts (sec. Acc) in the city of Porto San Giorgio, he also studied engraving techniques in the studio of Maestro Paolo De Santi in the city of Fermo.

In 1979 Gaetano began to show his work. He received his degree in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts (the Accademia di Belle Arti) in Urbino in 1982, after which(?) he attended courses in Graphic Arts, in Aesthetics, in Photography and in Stage Direction, and received his teaching degree in Art Education in the Disciplines of Painting, Drawing and Art History.

Along with his mentor, the master engraver Maestro Paolo De Santi, Gaetano launched the cultural space "AvangArte Studio" in Fermo and from 1984 to 1990 they produced numerous visual arts and theatre-performance projects. From 1993 to 2001, in collaboration with the artists Da Rold and Vazza, he was the artistic director and organizer of the "Portici Inattuali Festival of Contemporary Art" in Sitran, in the province of Belluno.

Gaetano Ricci is an eclectic artist, involved in painting, sculpture, installation and performance. The search of advanced aesthetic solutions and new modes of expression has afforded him many interactive and interdisciplinary experiences with music, gestural expressiveness and theatre. His intense artistic activity includes art shows and personal exhibitions, installation sets for experimental theatre, prose theatre, opera and symphonic theatre.

When examining his work one can see that it is the simple and constant search for perfection and balance, beyond mere aesthetics, that drives his work forward. In his most recent experiments, anti-sculptural primary geometric structures reveal all of their effectiveness in changing our focus from the decoding of a form to the effects of their presence in space.
